Entry 2: LIFE COVERING EVENTS
LIFE COVERING EVENTS
Spending time covering events and traveling the world is something I just love to do. I find it relaxing and motivating every time I leave to go cover an event. The cool thing about covering events is my family can come and make a vacation out of it if they choose. Last October I was blessed to cover Bellator 300 in San Diego, California and it had so much for my family to do. Our hotel is usually at the fighter hotel and in this case was on the beach.
WHAT COVERING AN EVENT ENTAILS?
Usually when you cover an MMA event and the promotion is organized it is broken down into 4 parts. Media day, Press conference, Weigh-ins and Fight day. As media you will attend those 4 events with fight day being the longest. When each event is over you want to get your content out fast and that takes 5-6 hours minimum to edit all of it. On top of all of that you have the journalism part where you have to write a couple articles throughout the week from interviews or the fights. Fight day is usually the best. Media gets fed, cage side seats (Depending on the promotion) and press room passes for post fight interviews backstage. Fight day can be stressful because you are running back and forth and you have to constantly make sure your equipment and camera batteries are charged. The UFC does not hand out very many Cageside seats so media gets in where they can or stay in the press room.
All in all covering MMA is one of the greatest things I have chose to do with my life and has motivated me to do big things in life. I am extremely grateful for it!
